NoR Weapons Guidelines

This posting is designed to help clarify what weapons are compatible and legal in NoR and with the current Combat System. Please read carefully.

Generally speaking, RP enabled weapons will work with the Combat System. Special features specific to a combat system, will need to be updated to work specifically with ours.

  • Allowed Weapons Vendors, and possible new Vendors, please insure your new products/weapons are approved by a NoR Weapons Admin before distribution or use in NoR.
  • If a weapon or vendor is not specified in this document, please contact a NoR Weapons Admin, prior to use, for approval.
  • No weapon is guaranteed to work with NoR's Combat System and it is the responsibility of weapons makers to keep their products in compliance with the rules of any Universe's they wish to have their products used in.
  • WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHANGES TO ANY AND ALL WEAPONS GUIDELINES AND APPROVALS AS WE FEEL NECESSARY AND AS INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
  • IF YOUR WEAPON IS NOT ON THE BANNED OR APPROVED LIST YOU CANNOT USE IT UNTIL IT IS EVALUATED BY STAFF.

Weapon Information:

The NoR Rules on Weapons are divided into three (3) categories - 1) Melee, 2) Ranged, and 3) Explosives - and there are regulators outlined to verify whether a weapon you have is legal in NoR.

  1. Melee are the weapons you would use for hand-to-hand combat. Epee, Swords, Knives, Clubs, Claws, etc. would all fall into this category.
  2. Ranged weapons are generally seen as Fire Arms (guns), Bows & Crossbows and throwing weapons.
  3. Explosives are just that. Weapons that explode, like: Dynamite and Grenades. Currently, NO type of Explosive is allowed in NoR. Guns may have explosive options, like grenades, however these options/modes CANNOT be used.
  • There are weapons that are equipped with both Melee and Ranged capabilities; allowing users to switch between the two combative types. If a weapon falls into this category, it is considered TWO (2) weapons and CANNOT be stacked with another. Please refer to the NoR Rules "Weapons Stacking" for clarification.  Weapons that do both at the same time (i.e., melee and shoot prims) are not allowed.


Weapon "Rule of Thumb", when thinking of purchasing for NoR:

Melee:

  1. All Melee weapons must have an animation indicating attack.
  2. A Melee weapon, ie: Epee, Chaos Melee, etc, takes up one (1) weapons slot.
  3. Melee weapons must not enhance your avatar movement (dash, jump, etc.).  Avatar displacement from animations can be no more than 2.5 in the X or Y planes (i.e., on the ground), or 6m in the Z plane (i.e., in the air).
  4. Melee weapons must not contain a shield or cloaking device.


Ranged: these rules are designed to minimize the known lag impact of guns.  If you are developing a weapon, we strongly suggest you contact NoR weapons staff during the development process. 

  1. Rate of fire cannot be more than 10 bullets per second (BPS).  Ideal gun settings are approximately 5 BPS and velocity no greater than 100 m/s.
  2. Guns should have a initial resting script time of no more than 0.00009 seconds
  3. Guns should generate no more than 0.0009 seconds of script time with 100 rounds.
  4. Ranged weapons *MUST* reload. Clips for guns must only hold 1-100 rounds.  50 per gun if 2 guns are equipped.  There is NO ADVANTAGE to using 2 guns with the current combat system.
  5. No push.
  6. Ranged weapons must not enhance your avatar movement.  If included, crouch or other avatar adjustments fall under the 'No AOs in combat' rule, and cannot be used in combat.
  7. Ranged weapons must not contain radar or tracking bullets (bullets that seek an avatar).
  8. Ranged weapons must not contain a shield or cloaking device.
  9. Extremely laggy, particle based rounds are prohibited. Multiple rezzers are not permitted.
  10. Effects, such as shells, screams, blood, etc., must be turned OFF.
  11. If the weapon has the option to alter, turn-off or change these type of settings to function within the rules, then it is allowed to be used ONLY with rules compliant settings.


Explosives:

  1. This category is currently "null and void" because these options have not been implemented into our Combat System or gameplay. However, if you find something that would be considered in the "explosive" category, please consult the NoR Weapons Staff for clarification.

General Guidelines

  • You can make a custom *LOOKING* weapon for an individual, but there should be a version for sale that anyone could buy. Personal use weapons with custom scripts are prohibited regardless if it is enhanced.

DCS Weapons and Items (Rules aplicable ONLY in Zerin sim)

The DCS weapons and items sold in the DCS Vendors as well as the DCS consumables are legal for use in NoR. These weapons have been equipped with extra damage and/or powerfull effects. In order to keep their use balanced within DCS configuration the following guidelines have been set for their use to prevent unbalanced situations.

note: DCS enhanced weapons can have effects (like push) which are normally not allowed for use in NoR. The DCS weapons can be considered the exceptions to the rule in these cases. note: Do not confuse DCS enhanced with DCS compatible. DCS compatible weapons follow the procedures of aproval as described later in the weapon guidelines.


DCS Melee/Ranged Weapons

  1. Combineing two DCS enhanced melee and/or ranged weapons together is not allowed, including the spellweaver system/items. (A wrist mounted shadow stalker + the pewter scythe is not a legal combination, nor is a bolt pistol and spellweaver)
  2. DCS enhanced melee weapons can be combined with a ranged weapon

DCS Spellweaver products

  1. The Spellweaver system (book + 2 attachments) counts as 1 of the 2 weapons on your AV
  2. The Spellweaver system can only be combined with a ranged weapon
  3. Spellweaver items as the Dark Staff, Earth Staff and Vector Storm take REPLACE the option for ranged. (Spellweaver + Dark Staff + Ranged is not a legal combination)
  4. The Earth Staff, Dark Staff and Vector Storm can only be be used in combinated with the Spellweaver setup.

DCS Consumables

  1. DCS Consumables are legal for use in NoR
  2. Additional rules apply to the Revive Consumable in order to maintain balance with the system and in the spirit of NoR role play
  • NoR Rules upon defeat state that one is mortally wounded and barely conscious. Unlike the use of a revive Skill a consumable would require a "bottle to be opened or a spell to be casted" in order to get its effect.
  • Announcing in role play that you are preparing and Going To Take the Revive Consumable and allowing a period of time for a response is a Requirement before using a Revive Consumable.

DCS Enhancements

  1. The Talismans, bracelets and other items which only alter a characters stats do not count as weapon and do not take a weapon slot on your AV.


DCS Dual Handed/Wielded weapons Certain DCS weapons are created to be "Dual Handed" or "Dual Wielded". In order to maintain a fair balance between the players using enhanced weapons/skills/non enhanced weapons NoR follows the DCS line and will enforce "Dual Handed" and "Dual Wielded" rules where certain selected weapons are concerned.

  1. Dual Handed weapons take both weapon slots of your character. NO OTHER weapon can be used with it (including wrist mounted weapons).
  2. Dual Wielded weapons can only be used with the other and can not be mixed with other weapons. Including wrist mounted weapons.

SL objects that do damage for RP

★★★RP creatures/devices with damage ability usage and settings★★★

  • We allow the use of damage causing creatures/devices to be used in moderation but reserve the right to decide if we feel you usage is proper and legal. the following rules must be observed:
  • These devices must be used for RP purposes only.(As a place to drag your victim to, to get them to comply or use as a threat IC).

★ Walking pets and *Guard* animals are NOT allowed, under ANY circumstances.

  • These must not be used as a home security system.(Home security systems, of any kind, in "in play" areas are strictly forbidden).
  • These CANNOT be placed in a "trap like' location . Players must be able to avoid damage from them via a *very* visable exit/eagress, simply by walking away.

★ Traps INCLUDE covered pits and builds that are visibly unavoidable.

  • The area of attack can be NO greater than 20 meters and the creature must attack everyone who enters its' perimeter--including the owner.
  • These may only be used ONE (1) rez object at a time. You may put down one object per 4096m size parcel, period.
  • As with weapons, these objects will all need to be approved in the environment to be used. The objects will have to stay they way they are approved.


★★★Any infraction of these rules will result in immediate removal and denial of future use.★★★

Other Restricted Use Systems:

  • Shields are NOT allowed. Period. Take them off when you get here. We don't care who made it or how much you paid for it. They are considered an exploit. In addition, shields rez temporary prims at an obscene rate and with very short sensor sweeps. Exploit problems aside, they're not worth the degradation in SIM performance.
  • Cagers/Orbiters/Explosives - Use of any of these is grounds for an instant ban. These are griefing tools, directly against NoR rules and have NO place in NoR.
  • High particle, obstructive or resource intensive magic systems are under restricted use. Magic systems on a "non-intrusive" level are generally ok, but should probably be looked at by a Staff member.
  • Weapons Systems & Anti-Griefer/Griefer Systems - The use of Force Prophecies, Spy systems, Jet-packs, Avatar hiding systems, Mysti-Tool, Magic, Teledash, Psi-tech, Omnicron, Secret Agent, Dematerializer, QuantumCore, etc. are ALL ILLEGAL and NOT allowed.
  • Radars and Scanners- are STRICTLY prohibited. Not only are these objects heavily scripted, but they are disruptive, against the rules and have no place in NoR.
  • Heavily scripted objects - (an object running 300 plus scripts or more - We monitor script IPS) are liable to be banned. The reason being, this slows down SIM performance and server load, causing a multitude of problems. If the object has this type of potential, it is more then likely not allowed.
