News------------------Personal Message To The Community From Luxa----------------------

The launch of the additional continent centered around Megapolis was a symbol of the growth and change of our community that has been in the works for the last few months. With its successful launch the next phase of the evolution and reorganization to accommodate it is at hand: Lapus Nowhere is assuming the reigns of NoR’s management and Luxa/Sic will be stepping aside to handle the business aspects as well as pursue a project we promised many months ago.

For the last couple months we have been building the structure to accommodate this change in NoR’s management and feel it is now developed to make this transition seamless. Lapus and Mystyka Gray have been working closely to identify what works and what needs improvement in our community so that appropriate adjustments can be made wisely.

I am by no means leaving NoR. I have watched her grow from 1 sim to 28, from a handful of players to a nearing a 1000 a day, from a bunch of friends to a full fledged community. No way could I ever leave, I love this place and all of you far too much.

My real life is speeding up as is many aspects of our community which requires a division of labor. This is the natural considering the size of our community and with what is coming next. NoR has taken on its own life, so much so that no one can control it fully, but rather the most that can be done is to sit in the saddle and guide her. The person in that saddle needs to be able to devote the time to and have a love for our community that it requires and deserves. As my duties grow I find myself no longer able to put in that time despite how much I try.

Lapus is a perfect choice to jump in the saddle and wanted the position for some time. She has the drive, passion, understanding of the players, the vision of where we are going and the grasp of what it takes to get there. I know that NoR in good hands.

Luxa

--------------------------------Official Announcement----------------------------------
NoR(SIM) Management Announces the Promotion of Lapus Nowhere to General Manager of NoRSim RP and Community.

Due to the complexity of land arrangements Luxa Budan will continue to function as your contact for tier payments, sim purchases, and *financial* issues related to land management. Covenant and rule enforcement remains the responsibility of NoR ADMINs under the direction of Lapus Nowhere.

Lapus Nowhere's responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

- Direct management of NoR ADMIN staff and, in collaboration with existing staff, the hiring of new ADMIN staff.
- Direct management of Official and 'Player Coordinated' RP events and storylines with contributors and staff of her choosing.
- Management of the ongoing evolution of NoR’s Universe 'End of Days' ruleset..
- Basic ongoing maintenance of the NoR sims and estate management.

- Mystyka Gray has and will continue to work closely with Lapus in her many roles that allow NoR to run smoothly.

- CEO Level Management of The NoR Mentor Program is still under the direct management of Izzebella Rossini

In essence, your day to day lives in NoR remain *unchanged* in this transition except that, if contacted by Lapus, you are to consider her as speaking for The Lands Of NoR (NoRsim) owners and shareholders.

Looking forward to sharing the fruits of the new projects with you all, NoR Management
Town Hall Meeting & Grand Opening Of the New Continent
Well the new continent official opening was a great success and a lot of fun for both the players and staff. The triple play dagger event was short and sweet. Ming ran a really fun Brain Tease game. We then had several staff members on NoR Radio playing tag the admin & impromptu "I spy with my little eye (player x)" first to kill them gets a bounty. So we hope it was as good for all of you as it was for us.

Townhall Meeting Summary with Luxa Budan
1) With the launch of the new continent a fresh start was given by way of a general amnesty to all banned players. While we hope this is a positive thing we will also watch closely those given a new chance and will ban them again if necessary

2) We have lost some friends in real life or in SL. However, the NoR community continues to evolve, grow & be the envy of SL. This community is what others aspire to be and that is all because of the fantastic people that have come to call NoR home.

3) Rerolls. Asked yet again about a coming reroll it was explained mass rerolls are only done when something changes within WARPS that would be unfair to force players to stick with previous choices. There is a coming reroll event but it is not scheduled yet nor will it be until the current crop of issues Second Life side with Mono are addressed & subsequently the WARPS team rolls the new version of warps & the database. Official announcements will be made and any other source is likely to be wrong.

4) We are NoR :)

5) Luxa will be making another major announcement of the coming evolution in our community within the next 2 weeks. Until then, thank you all.
Official Opening Of The New NoR Continent
Thats right its time. The new continent is opening this coming weekend at 12 SL time. This continent is as much a part of NoR as the first. Think North America and Europe as an analogy. You will have the same character sheets, levels, experience, etc. This is going to open up a whole new door in terms of roleplay and ofcourse war :). This will be the big introduction of the new city center: Megapolis

As we open the new continent we prepare for the revamping of Remembrance. We are VERY excited by the new build for our beloved Rem that will set it apart from any other in SL. We expect to drop the new build for Rem in September. The Rem we know and love will be there until then so get those nostalgia shots between now and then. :)

Anyway, 12 pm SLT this Saturday, August 30th we have a lot of fun planned in the new continent. Including a dual dagger event. Yes we said dual, 9 and under for one and 10 and over for the other. In addition Farah and the new continent owners have whipped up lots of events.
New Continent & the voice of the NoRians on XP rates
OK we are unofficially opening up the new continent to let NoRians check it out but still allow the builders to build. Stop on by and take a look. Construction is still very much under way but in a week our 2 we will be having a grand opening with some events :)

HAVE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD:

As we noted there is a rebalancing going on in the database, part of it is a lowering of the xp ticks and adjusting the levels to promote a more balanced spread for new players and players. This change is necessary to actually have levels have value especially as some of the new XP systems like campaigns and increased RP monitoring come online.

In any event, we had planned on releasing some of the changes slowly with the new tick rates being first but want to hear from the community on it. So use our poll placed in the DISCUSSION FORUM to be heard on the topic. It will be on the right hand side but you must be register as a member first.
**UPDATE 7: WARPS August Release Plan
WARPS--- UPDATE 7: 10/02 ---
Two months burn by this quickly? Now it's been nearly 3 montsh since we've had a new meter, and Mono still has some issues. I'm still working with the lindens on the issues, and hope that some additional clues will help us get closer to a stable enough MONO to release our new meter on.

I have MysteryChill and the test team setup to look at 17m again this weekend. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

In the additional time I have made some more changes to the meter, but not as intensively as I was months ago. I've shifted to helping the lindens some, and shoring up other parts of the infrastructure.

--- UPDATE 6: 9/16 ---
Spent most of the evening over in the Beta grid looking at what will become 1.24.6 with the Lindens. There are still issues with MONO, but it's looking a lot better. We may try to pilot a recompile of our current meter this weekened and see how it behaves. We're getting closer all the time! Keep your eyes on the case I logged: [JIRA SVC-2908]

--- UPDATE 5: 9/2 ---
Server 1.24.4 still has all the same issues as 1.24.3... so we're still waiting on Mono to get stable. Here's another important Jira to vote for: [Jira SVC-2981]

--- UPDATE 4: 8/31 ---
Thursday the Lindens said there wouldn't be a new beta server on the grid until next week sometime to resolve our issues. We can't roll with mono in its current state, it's really not stable enough. Dimenotx reported his issue a few days after ours [Jira SVC-2969] and it's an obvious showstopper for DCS too. I suspect we'll have enough momentum behind this after this weekend that we'll be able to get it resolved quickly. I IMed 4 lindens this evening regarding the issues and how they can be separated to get them managed and brought to resolution. If you want the new WARPS faster - Vote for the Jira: [JIRA SVC-2908]

--- UPDATE 3: 8/27 ---
Now I'm hearing they're going to do a more aggressive rolling restart and take the whole grid to 1.24.3 by midnight Friday. It's on the beta grid now, and along with all the really bad errors we saw in 1.24.1&2, 3 introduces 4 new ones :). We're already working with the Lindens on it.

--- UPDATE 2: 8/26 ---
The Lindens let the sims bake over the weekend. We crashed NoRsims 18x during our testing of MONO code. I've opened a Jira for some of the issues, and other more sensitive issues I've taken directly to the Lindens to open as internal issues. Mono is just not stable enough yet for anyone to use it in production on a mass scale.

They rolled another 1200 sims today and changed the crash logging to try and gather more information, and they're releasing the new RC client tomorrow, so hopefully additional users will report the Mono issues and we can get them addressed quickly.

They also put 1.24.2 on the beta grid, to which I visisted and crashed several sims without much effort, and duplicated the problems we saw in 1.24.0 and 1.24.1. If they fix 1.24.2, then we'll launch the new meter on weekend of September 6th.

I've been spending a lot of time testing with the lindens, but I plan to focus back on WARPS tomorrow.

--- UPDATE 1: 8/15 ---
The lindens didn't give a hard committment for this week on Mono, but the process is in place. Currently, the word is if there are no critical roadblocks, they'll start an early evaluation on Tuesday 8/19, then roll the rest of the grid Wednesday and Thursday. They are planning 1.21 RC0 for Wednesday too.

--- UPDATE 8/8 ---
I spoke with Periapse and got the latest scoop on Mono: They've found a handful of new bugs in Mono and pushed the release out a week (The new dates for gridwide deployment are 8/19-8/21). Because the weekend after that is a holiday in the US and many of us will have other plans, I'm not sure what our release plan will be. We may push out into September, or we may go right away on the same weekend as we originally planned. We'll keep you posted.

--- Original Message 8/2 ---
I spoke with Periapse Linden and Vektor Linden about the upcoming Mono release, and we’ve adjusted our plans according to the current Linden Labs Plans. The latest from Periapse is that the first sims will roll to the 1.24 server on August 15th, and depending on the success of that, the remainder of the grid will be rolled shortly afterwards.

Our Mono Meter has been built to make the best of Mono and support our new features roadmap, it's designed for and dependent on the coming database update. Because of this, we want to be shielded from any rollback. The current plan is to roll our next release of WARPS out on August 23rd if Mono is stable.

Another possibility is to release another version we've been building in parallel while we waited to see what the Lindens planned. This V0.0.17b version is recompiled for Mono but does not require the new database. An advantage of this interim version is that our users can see the differences that Mono has to offer separate from new features and the DB changes. Which approach we take rests largely in the hands of the Lindens since job one for us is user experience.

Although this may not let us have bragging rights to “first to jump into mono in the production grid” we’re choosing to be sure the new server version is stable with the Mono VM so we can try to keep the most consistent and reliable experience SL allows.

In short; As soon as Mono seems stable and reliable, we will roll, at least, Mono-ready version. If Mono is a still settling, we'll stay with the old DB and feature set and use the extra time to add features we had planned for a later release.

Thanks, and look forward to seeing you in-game!

Winds of change...
NewsHello NoRians. As I noted recently there are a lot of new things coming soon. We have been quietly working behind the scenes preparing for vacations to end to unleash many improvements and events. Here are some of them that are imminent to wet your appetites.

Though NoR is but one of 13 universes (spanning a total of 60 regions) in WARPS for now we still have the honor of releasing some of their news.

WARPS: Remember that new meter release a month ago? Where it was said there were some changes "under the hood" that you really wouldn’t notice? Well that was the WARPS dev team making some critical changes to the back end to be ready for the Linden Lab release of the new scripting language: Mono. We have been Mono ready ever since and have a brand new meter optimized for it coming out.

Database Rebalance: The new WARPS default Spells/Race/Class rebalance will be implemented supporting levels with new spells, effects, abilities up to level 100 which can be doubled in short order under the new system. Shortly, thereafter the NoR specific set will be released.

New Race – Revenants: For those of you that had paid attention when we opened the NoR Wiki we inserted this name with “more to come to” follow it. In short, it’s a player living dead race. The dead walking the Earth is biblical, so who are we to argue?  Note, there will be a player zombie race (essentially “thinking dead”) and down the road a bit, as some of the more advanced interactions are streamlined, an AI based zombies (“mindless zombies”) among other AI beasties. Much fun coming.

New Continent: As has been discussed many times, NoR will be 2 continents coming mid-August. Same rules, player character sheets, storyline and so on but a whole new dimension in RP and game play.

Official Storyline, NoR-wide RP: This one has been coming a while but we wanted the new mono release and database rebalances to be in place before we did. If you don’t recall what has happened so far it may be worth a review because the past comes back to haunt us.

There is much more in store for NoR & WARPS that we are not going to get into now. Exciting times!

Announcement: The New NoR Continent
NewsAs some of you know we are planning a new addition to NoR of a 5-9 sim continent with a similar setup to the first (Neutral city center like Remembrance and clan/faction territory suburbs). This new continent will have the same rules, storyline, character sheets we are used to. Right now there are 4 sims confirmed and a 5th well on its way to being confirmed so there is still some sims available if you want to get in on the action.

It is important to note this is the last major NoRSim expansion for 2008. The new continent will launch around mid-August. If you are interested in getting in on the new land there is a maximum of 4 sims that that are left up for grabs.

Please contact Serenity Houston or Lanceifer Graf for more information.

As we continue to lead change and innovation, August will be an interesting time for our community. Many changes are coming, all of which are designed to maintain our community values as well as take us to the next level of evolution. As such, with the success of our community we are also shifting gears away from that rat race for traffic in a single sim to get notice. We have been preparing for this for some time as Havok 4 made our lag worse instead of better. The central sim to each continent will, by their nature have a certain focus and lag, but there will be a decentralization of this across the 2 continents as well as a dispersing of work load over the many sims that make up our community to help reduce the lag.

We have managed to be on the front of good change since our inception. We pioneered the “Live Where You Play” concept in the SL game world. We expanded into the multi-sim model that now so many have adopted. This new continent and the shifting away from high traffic in a single sim for recognition is just the next step. We will be bigger, better and stronger than ever for it. Its an exciting time and I look forward to where our community is going.

Regards and well wishes
Luxa (on behalf of NoR Management)
Balance Test Weekend & Survey
NewsAs part of the comprehensive re-balancing of the NoR Universe within WARPS we will be adjusting some of the variables and monitoring the results. Any changes are temporary and will go back to what you are used to on Sunday. You may or may not notice differences but the whole time we will be collecting data in order to work out the best balance. As always, enjoy yourselves :)

Additional: To better help us dial into our community and better meet its needs we are doing a series of voluntary and ANONYMOUS surveys with an external survey company. We won't know who you are unless you tell us.

NoR History & You
OK as you know we have a backstory for NoR we are starting to slowly release on our wiki: http://www.landofnor.com/norwiki/index.php/Encyclopedia_NoRannica

Now, this is also added to by events in NoR. So we want to hear about your clan/faction/group in NoR. Some have already made it in to the wiki. So send use a short description on it & its origins, maybe a small logo to norevents@landofnor.com and it may end up in the wiki!
New game for all to play.
GamesOK to make up for the delay in the DB release, which we do feel bad about but really believe is overall for the best, we decided to have a fun game. Rules are simple: Put NoRSim (remembrance) in your "Picks" in your profile. Leave the logo and all up and you qualify. We will pick a name at random from the registered database of players, we will check your profile picks and if the NoRSim is there, with the logo you WIN! (500 xp + 500 L) We will do one prize on each day this weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun).
DB release & reroll event delayed.
OK we were largely on target for this weekend and the new DB release/Reroll. However we decided to add a couple new features, some obvious but others behind the scenes. They will be worth the extra time and effort to implement. This is going to push us back a bit because we do not want to do 1 reroll event then have another 2 weeks later. So we are integrating the new feature then releasing the database & yes the reroll event. :)
